2014 Travel Instructions

We do want you to have a safe and enjoyable journey. Please read these notes carefully and if in doubt about anything, please make further enquiries before you begin your journey.

ARRIVAL TIME

Please do your best to arrive at the campsite between 3:00pm and 5:00pm (Campers should not arrive before
3:00pm). Tea is the first meal served on arrival day at 6:00pm.

JOURNEY BY ROAD

Both Warrior and Teen Camp are just off the A497 between Criccieth and Pwllheli on the
edge of the Lleyn Peninsular in North Wales.

WARRIOR CAMP:

Address: Warrior Camp, c/o Afonwen Farm, Chwilog, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, LL53 6TX.

Lat/Lon: 52.910663 ,-4.318761 or 52*54’38″N 4*19’07″W

Please note if using the postcode in sat-nav, you will end up at the farm. Do not turn into the farm, but continue to the next roundabout.

Travelling from Criccieth towards Pwllheli, at the first roundabout (in an area called Afonwen),
take the first exit. Follow this lane, which is in the direction of the sea until you see the railway bridge over the road.
Immediately before the railway bridge turn left into a narrow lane, cross the stream and Warrior Camp is about 50
yards on the left. (Note: If you reach Haven Holidays on the A497, you have gone too far).
If travelling from Pwllheli, the road down to Warrior Camp is the third exit off the roundabout, which is immediately
after the Haven Holiday roundabout.

TEEN CAMP:

Address: Teen Camp, Mr J Huws, c/o Ynysgain Fawr, Criccieth, Gwynedd,LL52 0SB

Travelling from Criccieth towards Pwllheli, the entrance to Ynysgain Fawr is on the left 0.9 miles
from the ‘derestricted’ speed limit sign. You will see grey cottages, then a layby on the left with a bus stop. The
farm lane is immediately on the left next to a sign to ‘Llanystumdwy’. On entering the farm lane, just follow this
single track road, up over the railway line. On reaching a junction turn left and cross the farmyard between the
buildings, go down the hill and you will come out near the beach. Access to our field is off this track on the left,
across another large field. It will be signposted from the main road (distance from field to road is 0.6 miles).
If travelling from Pwllheli (or Warrior Camp) on the A497 you will cross the River Dwyfor and pass the second
brown sign to Llanystumdwy and Rhoslan. The entrance to the farm track is just 0.2 miles from this junction on the
right, where the telegraph wire crosses the road. (You will see grey cottages on either side of the road and a layby
with a bus stop just after this track).

JOURNEY BY RAIL

Criccieth is on the Cambrian Coast line, which runs up to Pwllheli. Arriva Trains Wales run
from Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Birmingham. For many of you, Shrewsbury may be the station to connect
with these trains.
Unfortunately we have discovered that due to work being done replacing an old wooden railway bridge and
repairing storm damage, at present no trains are running beyond Harlech. Rail companies are running a bus
service, which links all the stations. We suggest you aim to catch a train that gets into Harlech at either 2:30pm or
4:30pm. The bus service will then get you to Criccieth by 3:30pm or 5:30pm. We will have staff in Criccieth to meet
you at these times.

JOURNEY BY NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH

National Express Coaches have a service to Pwllheli from
Birmingham, London and Manchester. This coach does stop and pick up in Criccieth.

DEPARTURE

Please note that all campers must aim to leave the campsite by 10:30am on the day of departure to
allow us to prepare for the next group. If this is not possible please let us know. The camp will arrange transport for
campers in to Criccieth each Saturday morning. This will be in time for the Rail Company bus at 9:20am, which will
connect with the train leaving Harlech at 10:30 am.
If you would like a packed lunch for your return journey, please indicate this on your Travel Form (nominal charge
for a packed lunch is £4.00, payable in advance to the WEC Youth Office or to the Camp Treasurer upon arrival at
camp).
On the last week, leaders and older campers are welcome to stay until lunch, to help with the work of dismantling
the camp.

ARRIVAL / DEPARTURE NOTIFICATION.

It is essential that you return the enclosed Travel Form so that it arrives at least seven days before you are due to
arrive at camp (to the Youth Office if before 14th July, after that to the camp address). This is especially important if
you need to be met in Criccieth. Please ensure that all details are correct. Thank you.
Have a safe journey.
